Time Flies...

I wasn't really thrilled about the idea of studying drama; when i think of drama, i think old Shakespeare-esque plays that are full of confusing language and therefore difficult to understand. However, i was obviously being ignorant of the fact that there is SO much more out there. After reading the short drama "Time Flies", i was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which th playwright wrote. The characters spoke clearly and i even laughed out loud a few times. Drama, i soon realized, isn't as narrow as i once thought it was.
"Time Flies" is a story of two lowly mayflies who meet, mate, then realize how little time they have left to live. Being that their lifespans are only about 24 hours, their sole purpose in life is to simply reproduce. May and Horace (the two flies) are petrified at the thought of dying before they experience what little their short life has to offer. Though it is quite cliche, the playwright is saying through his characters that life isn't something to be taken for granted; we must not simply live and die, we must do what we can with what we are given. I never want to reach the point where i'm out of time and still haven't done all i've wanted to. I want to live my life like a mayfly with one day to live... maybe i'll even fly to Paris. :)
